Baldur's Gate 3: Steel Watch Full Walkthrough & Rescue Guide

This Baldur's Gate 3 walkthrough details the Steel Watch mission, guiding players through rescuing hostages, defeating enemies, and obtaining valuable loot.

Before heading to the Lower City, explore the Cargo Warehouse. You'll need to use stealth or a spell like Fog Cloud to obscure the vision of those around you to pick the lock. If you find this troublesome, you can directly enter the warehouse through the smelly stairs in the sewers.

Upon entering the warehouse, defeat the five beasts. If you entered directly from the sewers, you can bypass this combat encounter.

After defeating all enemies, proceed to the basement through the trapdoor located in the corner.

There aren't any particularly important items in the basement. After a quick search, move on to the Mechanical Parts Warehouse.

You'll find a piece of Infernal Iron on the floor behind the door.

Go to the area above the submarine and speak with the Redhammer. He will reveal that his submarine was responsible for the death of the Motherwail cultists. However, do not expose him yet. Instead, have him take you to the Steel Watch.

Before entering the Steel Watch, Gortash will issue a warning. Regardless, you must proceed into the Steel Watch.

Upon entering the Steel Watch, Gortash will detonate explosives planted within. You must rescue the prisoners and explore within a limited number of turns. The turn limit varies depending on the difficulty setting chosen by the player.

First, descend to the lower level using the wooden ladder.

Once on the lower level, you'll encounter more Kuo-Toa to defeat. The quest markers on the minimap indicate the hostages you need to rescue. Pulling the lever on the wall will open the prison cells to release the prisoners. There are two prisoners in the central area, but don't rush to them just yet.

The entire Steel Watch prison is laid out in a "田" (field) shape. However, the northeast and southeast sections are inaccessible due to damage, making it more of a "日" (sun) shape with a slight extension. The wooden ladder from the submarine is located at the central intersection. The furthest prisoners will require approximately 3-4 turns to reach the submarine, so it's advisable to prioritize rescuing the ones furthest away.

Since the enemies here are Kuo-Toa, they pose little threat beyond their nets. Therefore, you can split your party. One character should head east to rescue the Duke, while the two fastest characters should head west to rescue other hostages. The character with the highest damage output should remain in the central area to deal with the Kuo-Toa that will appear later and to free hostages caught in nets.

During your operations, Kuo-Toa will continuously emerge from underwater gaps in the Steel Watch.

On the easternmost side of the Steel Watch, rescue the severely wounded Duke in his cell. Administer some healing to him first. Two of the highest-tier healing potions should be enough to allow the Duke to withstand the subsequent attacks.

There are two other hostages in the same room; rescue them as well.

Since you previously chose to break the contract between Will and Mizora, Mizora will summon spiders to assassinate the Duke when you rescue him. The Duke, having been treated with two of the best healing potions, can withstand the spider attacks. Once Mizora's forced kneeling effect wears off, proceed to the corridor with your characters.

In the westernmost cells, there are two cells containing a total of six hostages. Pull the lever to release them.

Afterward, you can split your party again: those who are fast should head north, and those who are slower should head south.

The room in the northwest corner actually contains the key to Vault 6 of the Counting House, along with some potions and scrolls. You can skip it if you wish. If you choose not to retrieve items from the northwest corner, you can move that character to the corridors and the main hall to help deal with the Kuo-Toa.

In the southwestern room of the Steel Watch, you'll find Omin, who is trapped, along with a Mind Flayer Parasite specimen. There's a lever near the room's entrance that opens the door.

Omin can use teleportation to bring the character rescuing him directly back to the submarine. Once all hostages are on board, you can also return to the submarine.

Theoretically, you can rescue all characters and successfully escape the Steel Watch within the last one or two turns.

Upon returning to the dock below the Cargo Warehouse, Aradin will appear, attempting to take Redhammer away. Although Redhammer's unintentional mistake led to the death of the Motherwail cultists, the reward is too enticing to pass up.

After handing Redhammer over to Aradin, you will receive the rare armor, the Robe of the Motherwail.

Back at camp, speak with the Duke. The misunderstanding between father and son is resolved, and the Duke will inform you about a sleeping ancient dragon beneath Wyrm's Rock Fortress.

After the conversation, be sure to read the book the Duke gives you.

Return to the Guildhall and speak with Omin to receive some items and complete the quest "Find Omin."

Next, you'll need to head to the Steel Watch Foundry to disable Gortash's Steel Watch.
