This Baldur's Gate 3 guide details exploration of the Underdark, focusing on the Selûnite Outpost and Myconid Colony. It covers finding rare items, completing quests like 'Defeat the Duergar,' and interacting with NPCs.
Welcome, adventurers, to the depths of the Underdark! This guide will lead you through the treacherous paths of Baldur's Gate 3's Underdark, starting with the Selûnite Outpost and venturing into the fascinating Myconid Colony. Prepare to uncover secrets, battle formidable foes, and snag some seriously powerful loot!
Selûnite Outpost: Secrets and Spoils

Since we've already activated the Selûnite Outpost waypoint, we can teleport directly here.
You can obtain the Selûnite Key from the bones above the outpost's gate.

Destroying the gem on the statue with a ranged attack will disable the outpost's defense system. This act of defiance will also grant characters with the Acolyte background a moment of inspiration, awarding them one Inspiration Point.

There's a gilded chest in the room to the right of the entrance. Inside, you'll find the rare armor piece, the Helm of Arcane Might.

The wall to the right of the gilded chest is a secret door that requires a successful Perception check to discover. Opening it reveals an ornate chest with a trap, but it only contains a spell scroll and some miscellaneous items.

You can also enter the Underdark through the window on the west side of the outpost, but a tough enemy awaits below. We'll deal with that later!
After looting the outpost, we'll leave through the main entrance to officially enter the Underdark.
Journey into the Underdark: Perils and Rewards

Head northwest from the front of the outpost. At the location shown below, use the ramp to reach the upper level. Here, you'll find a sword embedded in a stone.

Investigating it allows you to pull the sword out with a Strength check. Alternatively, use a Religion check to identify the ritual type and then a drop of blood to easily extract the sword. Successfully pulling the sword grants the rare weapon, The Planar Binding Blade. A successful Religion check also inspires Acolytes, granting an Inspiration Point.

Afterward, follow the adjacent ramp downwards. Along the way, you'll encounter a Hook Horror mushroom. Destroy it with a ranged attack to avoid its 'Dazed' spore effect. It's recommended to have three characters stay on the ramp while one proceeds down.

The character at the bottom of the ramp will be knocked down by a Kuo-Toa, which then emerges from underground to attack. Engage and defeat the Kuo-Toa (Level 5). If it's too challenging, you can skip it for now and return later.

After defeating the Kuo-Toa, you'll obtain the rare armor piece, the Vampiric Robes.

Continue north along the road in front of the outpost. At a fork, the left path leads to the dead Spider Queen, while the right path pits you against two Minotaurs.

These Level 4 Minotaurs are surprisingly tough. When they enter their Frenzied Rage, they charge directly at your characters. Exploit the terrain's height differences to lure them into jumping off cliffs for significant fall damage.

On one of the Minotaurs, you can find the rare accessory, the Amulet of the Devout.

Continue north past where the Minotaurs were. The House of Grief warehouse at the end of the road has already been looted, so no need to ascend.

From the front of the warehouse, head west via the ramp. Use a ranged attack to detonate the Torchstalks in the plaza, clearing an open area.
Myconid Colony: Allies and Quests

Once the spores dissipate, pass through the cleared area to enter the Myconid Colony. Speak with the Sovereign Spore at the entrance and explain your intentions to gain entry.

Proceed straight along the path. On the wall to your right, you can activate the Myconid Colony waypoint.

Just past the waypoint, enter the alcove to your right and speak with the Absolute follower, Baelen. Tell him about the tadpole, and he'll call his companion, a Mind Flayer named Ommelon, to examine you. Ommelon suggests a potion and requires Hook Horror mushrooms and Tongue of Madness.

After the dialogue, speak with Baelen again to purchase equipment and items. Check out the unique gear he offers!

Continue west within the colony. Turn left and speak with the Sovereign Spore. You'll learn about the Duergar massacre and be asked to help avenge them, initiating the quest Defeat the Duergar.

Continuing forward, you'll encounter Dris the Skeleton Cloak and a Hook Horror. Defeating the Duergar will open the nearby vines.

Speaking with Dris, she'll ask you to find her husband, Barron the Mushroom Hunter. You can also purchase items from her, including the highly recommended Herbalist's Gloves for your healer.

Across from Dris, a plump Sovereign Spore has lost his territory and people. He agrees to join you in eliminating the Duergar, initiating the side quest Avenge Gratt's Kin.

Return to the corpse of the Spider Queen you previously killed. Use the plump Sovereign Spore's Animate Spores ability to revive her as a follower, making Underdark traversal much easier.

Afterward, return to the Myconid Colony and exit through the western entrance. Head northwest in the Underdark. Keep an eye on your companions, as they might get stuck on terrain.

South of the western Myconid Colony entrance, use Misty Step to reach a bird's nest on a mountaintop. Inside is a large wooden chest, but it contains no valuable items.

In the corner north of the western entrance, you'll find a bottomless pit. Use Speak with Animals or a potion to interact with the pit for a humorous dialogue with the Kuo-Toa below (if you haven't killed them).
Proceed to the Whispering Tree ahead. Descend via the vines to the right front of the path.

In the mushroom patch ahead, you'll find Barron the Mushroom Hunter. Do not rush in! Triggering the mushrooms to spray spores near a torch will cause a massive explosion, killing Barron and failing the mission.

Before entering the patch, cast Create Water to cover the torch's area. If you're a Wizard, you can give Barron your backpack, and he'll use a Misty Step scroll to escape, or simply throw him one. After extinguishing the torch, the mushrooms will still release poisonous spores. The Herbalist's Gloves will be useful here. Healing a poisoned character grants temporary immunity. Ensure Barron also makes a Constitution saving throw to escape; healing him is recommended for safety.

After rescuing Barron, he'll give you an Invisibility spell scroll and depart. Enter the mushroom patch to retrieve Barron's backpack from the northwest corner.

In the northeast corner, you'll find the legendary Mushroom of Prophecy. A Wizard can use Misty Step to grab it before it releases spores and teleport back to the Myconid Colony. Avoid taking damage from the spores as shown in the example!

Next to the Mushroom of Prophecy is a mound of dirt with a buried chest. Detonate all nearby mushrooms from a distance before digging it up.

Return to the colony and speak with Dris. You'll learn they are searching for the Mushroom of Prophecy and run a shop in Baldur's Gate. After giving her the mushroom, you'll receive the rare Unruly Quicksilver Gloves. The Mushroom of Prophecy can also be given to Shadowheart to help her regain memories or to Barron to cure his illness.
